Hackathon 2018
Please note that this event took place in 2018. Visit the most recent Hackathon event webpage.
The CCSE Hackathon is CCSE's premier event in showcasing student talent and connecting companies to our students. Through dedicated "threads" (aka themes) within the event, companies can raise awareness of opportunities for students to work with them, increase brand awareness, and locate top talent for computing workforce. Students can hone their skills, apply the knowledge they gain inside the classroom in authentic, real-world problems, and connect with internship and job opportunities.
This year's Hackathon theme is "Technology in 2030".
The Hackathon is open to all undergraduate and graduate CCSE (ACS, BASIT, IT, CS, SWE, CGDD and PhD in Data Science and Analytics) students.

KSU Hackathon Challenge #1
Anthem Innovation StudioCreating a voice enabled AI Assistant for parents with special needs kids. Today parents of Special needs kids don’t have time to constantly stay on the phone and wait for services, they need answers to their questions and support 24/7. How can we create a AI assistant that they can count on to solve a variety of healthcare challenges their kids are facing and provide real insights into what they should do that can include monitoring biometrics to integrating disparate solutions where navigating the step by step process is time consuming and frustrating. This assistant should focus on special needs children who have diabetes and weight issues to the more severe Autism cases..
KSU Hackathon Challenge #2
Anthem Innovation StudioImagine an app that would provide access to your health history, answer questions related to your health, and provide guidance to help you manage your health and healthcare spending. It will contain your health information including your medications, diagnoses, conditions, doctor visits, hospital stays, treatments and out-of-pocket costs. The information will come from all of your previous and current health insurance companies. This app would have a secure login to protect your privacy and the health information would only be accessible by you. You would have access to this information in the app even if you switched health insurance companies or went uninsured for a period of time.
The focus of the challenge should be on visualization of data. It is assumed that the data is automatically fed in near real time. In other words, do not focus at all on any kind of data entry or authorization.
As a bonus, imagine adding in non-health data such as weather, traffic, news, social media, financial markets, etc. What would the mash-up of this data together with health data look like? How could it be used to provide unique insights for individual consumers.

HPCC Systems
You will be presented with two problems, you can choose either of the one. Both are real world problems and you will be working with real dataset.
Problem 1
You have been given a dataset of users on a banking platform. This dataset contains about a 100 "bad actors" a.k.k individuals on an ofac sanctions list. Given the entire data set of data and a full ofac list you would have to write an algorithm to detect the bad actors in the main dataset.Problem 2
Merchant name cleaning and grouping is fairly common challenge in payments industry. You have been given a transactional dataset which contains transactions performed at various merchants. Given dataset contains inconsistent format of merchant names. For example, ‘walmart’, ‘wal-mart’, wal mart etc. However, all these merchants are really the same. We think using a combination of data cleaning technique and machine learning algorithm you will be required to cluster the merchant name together in the best possible way. To make your machine learning algorithm more efficient you could use the other fields provided to besides the merchant name. -
InComm
The FinTech industry serves billions of global customers daily. With services ranging from banking to payments to wealth management and beyond, innovation in the space continues to expand the reach and types of offerings.
Much of this innovation is driven by the exchange of digital financial data. Data that largely remains private due to the sensitive nature of the information. What would be possible if more service providers could build on top of this wealth of information?
InComm is challenging developers like you to create innovative solutions based on our prototype Account Management API. This API grants third-party services controlled access to customer account information. Build on this data to create mobile, AI, wearable, or smart home applications that help consumers enjoy a convenient, secure, and rewarding payment experience.
