Educational Objectives

  1. Computer Science graduates will be successful professionals in the field with solid fundamental knowledge of computer science, making valuable technical contributions to the design, development, and production of computing systems and related areas.
  2. Graduates utilize and exhibit strong communication and skills, as well as professional and ethical principles when functioning as members and leaders of multi-disciplinary teams.
  3. Graduates are sufficiently prepared for their first and subsequent positions, as they are independent learners and they will have the ability to learn and master new computing technologies, including being accepted into or completing advanced degree programs.

Bachelor of Arts in Applied Computer Science

Educational Objectives

  1. Increase the number of faculty involved with and program offerings using technology-enhanced instruction delivery.
  2. Increase program offerings and course enrollment.  
  3. Increase the number of students who complete the program each academic year.  

Student Learning Outcomes

The BA-ACS program is innovative in its focus on Applied Computer Science, and the Interdisciplinary Focus requiring a formal minor. The program prepares students for careers in industry.

  • All students will demonstrate the knowledge and skill to develop a correctly working and properly designed computer program.   This S.L.O  relates to program’s focus on Applied Computer Science.  
  • All students will be able to describe the components of a computer system, including the architecture, operating system, networking and security environment.   This S.L.O  relates to program’s focus on Applied Computer Science  
  • All students will be able to describe the foundations of the interdisciplinary minor area, and how that area relates to and is enhanced with computing technology.   This S.L.O  relates to the program’s focus on interdisciplinary computing.   

Master of Science in Computer Science

Educational Objectives

  1. Maintain and increase the number of students who complete the program per academic year (productivity)
  2. Increase the number of student presentations/publications/intellectual products (productivity and quality)
  3. Increase the number of students who earn credit hours for internship (quality)
  4. Increase the number of students who conduct thesis research (quality)

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the ability to apply advanced knowledge in different fields of computer science to problem solving 
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver a complete development project, meeting the standards and requirements
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas and solutions effectively, both in writing and orally.
